Biochemazone Artificial Aqueous Humour Fluid BZ276, also called simulated aqueous humour fluid or synthetic aqueous humour, is a sterile, ready-to-use solution that simulates the composition and pH of the aqueous humour of the eye. It is supplied at pH 7.38, and the pH can be customized to the project requirement.
The aqueous humour is a transparent, water-like fluid similar to plasma, but with a low protein concentration. It is secreted by the ciliary body, the structure that supports the lens, and it fills both the anterior and the posterior chambers of the eye. It is not to be confused with the vitreous humour, which lies in the space between the lens and the retina, also known as the posterior cavity or vitreous chamber. BZ276 gives laboratories an aqueous humour of constant composition for ocular in vitro research.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein and mucin, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized.
