Product Overview
Biochemazone Small-Mammal Simulated Urine BZ701 is a test fluid for measuring the absorbency and odour control of bedding and cage litter for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and rats. It replaces collected animal urine, which is hard to obtain in volume and changes quickly once collected.
Each version contains urea, creatinine, electrolytes and a yellow colour at levels chosen for the species. The rabbit and guinea pig versions are alkaline (pH about 8.0–8.5) and contain suspended calcium carbonate, reflecting the cloudy, calcium-rich urine of these herbivores. The hamster version has a pH of about 7.5–8.0 and the rat version a pH of about 6.5–7.0. The urea allows ammonia release to be studied when urease or bacteria are added.
The compositions are lab-defined and intended for comparing products, not for exact physiological modelling. It complements our Simulated Mouse Urine (BZ366). Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
