Biochemazone Rodent Serum Synthetic (Mouse or Rat) BZ525 is a chemically defined, animal-origin-free synthetic serum formulated to reproduce the biochemical and physicochemical properties of natural mouse and rat serum – its electrolyte balance, protein load, organic and lipid content, osmolality, density and near-neutral pH – without any material of animal origin. It gives laboratories a consistent, ethical and contamination-free substitute for pooled rodent serum in assay development, calibration, matrix-effect and recovery studies, device testing and training.
Each batch is sterile-filtered and standardised to a pH of 7.2–7.6 (label pH 7.4), an osmolality of 280–320 mOsm/kg and a density of about 1.02–1.04 g/mL, with endotoxin held within research-grade limits. Prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system, it eliminates the lot-to-lot biological variability, pathogen risk and supply constraints of serum collected from animals, and it is available with or without preservative and as a Powder Version Kit for culture-related work.
BZ525 is used as a surrogate matrix in in vitro toxicology and pharmacokinetic method development, as a diluent, blank and calibrator base for ELISA, LC-MS/MS and clinical-chemistry assays validated for rodent samples, for the calibration and verification of diagnostic devices and biosensors, as a serum-like challenge fluid for medical-device and material testing, and as a safe demonstration fluid in teaching laboratories. Simulated rat / mouse plasma, canine, feline, bovine and other species serum simulants and protein-free serum substitutes are also available.

Does BZ525 contain real mouse or rat serum?
No. It is a fully synthetic, animal-origin-free formulation that mimics the physicochemical properties of rodent serum; it contains no animal-derived proteins, antibodies or growth factors and is not a cell-culture serum supplement.
Can it replace rodent serum in my assay validation?
