Product Overview
Biochemazone Mosquito Artificial Blood Meal BZ699 is a blood substitute for feeding mosquito colonies through a membrane feeder. It reduces the need for live animals or donated blood, which can be costly, hard to obtain and variable from lot to lot.
The formula follows the published approach of artificial blood meals for Aedes aegypti (Gonzales et al., 2018, Scientific Reports, and later work): animal-derived proteins (bovine serum albumin and bovine haemoglobin) in a bicarbonate-buffered salt base, with ATP as a feeding stimulant. It has a pH of about 7.4 (range 7.2–7.6).
Feeding rates, egg numbers and larval development on artificial meals can differ from those on blood and between species and strains, so compare it against your current blood source before switching a colony. Made under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
