Product Overview
Biochemazone Alkaline Artificial Sweat (pH 8.0) – ISO 11641 Human Perspiration Solution BZ544 is a ready-to-use synthetic perspiration that reproduces human sweat under alkaline conditions. It is developed in line with ISO 11641, Leather – Tests for colour fastness – Colour fastness to perspiration, whose test solution is sodium chloride, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, urea and nitrilotriacetic acid adjusted to pH 8.0. The alkaline pH represents perspiration that has aged on the skin, the more severe condition for dyes and finishes.
BZ544 is used for dye-fastness and colour-stability testing of leather and textiles, for sweat-resistance and degradation studies of fabrics, for corrosion and oxidation studies of metals and coatings, for the calibration and exposure testing of skin-contact sensors and wearable devices, and in dermatological research on the interaction of alkaline sweat with the skin and with topical formulations.
Unopened, it has a 1-year shelf life at 2–30 °C and is shipped at room temperature; a preservative-free version and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. It is enzyme-free; viscosity, ionic strength and pH can be adjusted on request. For the ISO 11641 solution in other versions see BZ144 and BZ143; for the acid counterpart see Human Sweat pH 5.5 Acid Solution BZ545.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the solution alkaline?
Perspiration turns alkaline as it ages on the skin, and alkaline sweat is harder on dyes and finishes than fresh acid sweat. ISO 11641 therefore tests leather with a solution at pH 8.0.
How does BZ544 relate to BZ143 and BZ144?
All three are alkaline perspiration solutions at pH 8.0 in line with ISO 11641. BZ144 and BZ143 are the two versions listed under the ISO 11641 Artificial Perspiration name; BZ544 is the ready-to-use solution described on this page. Order the code your specification or earlier orders cite.
