Biochemazone Simulated Exhaled Breath Condensate BZ652 is a blank matrix for developing and testing breath sensors, EBC collectors and assays. Real breath condensate is almost pure water with very low levels of dissolved salts, ammonia and small organic molecules, and it is hard to collect in the volumes needed for method development.
The simulant is a very dilute solution of sodium, potassium, chloride, ammonium and small organic acids such as lactate in ultrapure water. Two types are offered: normal EBC at a pH of about 6.5 (range 6.0–7.0) and acidic EBC at a pH of about 5.5, reflecting the lower EBC pH reported in some airway diseases. Because EBC has almost no buffer, its pH changes with dissolved carbon dioxide; measure it under your own conditions.
Spike your target analytes (for example hydrogen peroxide, nitrite, glucose or biomarkers) into the matrix to build calibration curves. Published EBC composition data vary widely; check the levels against your application. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
