Product Overview

Biochemazone Artificial Saliva with Lactic Acid BZ523 is a ready-to-use, sterile acidic synthetic saliva at pH 4.0 formulated to replicate specific oral conditions. Lactic acid is the acid that plaque bacteria produce from sugars; it lowers the pH at the tooth surface below the point at which enamel starts to dissolve. BZ523 brings that acidic environment into the laboratory in a saliva-like matrix.

BZ523 is used in dental, biomedical, pharmaceutical and diagnostic research to simulate acidic oral environments: demineralization and enamel-erosion studies, caries research, corrosion and ion release of dental materials under acid challenge, and the testing of biosensors and devices at low pH. It serves as a standardized matrix for device validation, material compatibility studies and quality-control testing.

BZ523 is supplied stabilized, with a 1-year shelf life unopened; a not-stabilized, preservative-free version is available on request. The lactic acid concentration, the pH, enzymes and the pack size can be customized. For neutral saliva see Artificial Saliva or Synthetic Saliva BZ324 and BZ522 (pH 7.4); for acidic corrosion testing of dental metals see Artificial Saliva ISO 10271 and Fusayama/Meyer Artificial Saliva BZ105.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is lactic acid used?
It is the main acid formed by plaque bacteria from sugars and is the acid most often used in demineralization and caries models. A saliva with lactic acid at pH 4.0 reproduces that challenge.

Is a version without preservative available?
Yes. BZ523 is stabilized as standard; a not-stabilized, preservative-free version with a 6-month shelf life is supplied on request – state it in the order notes.
