Product Overview
Biochemazone Human Artificial Face Acne Sebum BZ337 is a ready-to-use, sterile, oily synthetic sebum that stands in for the facial sebum of acne-prone skin. Sebum is the oily secretion of the sebaceous glands; on the face, and above all on acne-prone skin, it is produced in excess and is the film that cleansers, sebum-control products and anti-acne formulations have to act on. BZ337 gives cosmetic and dermatological laboratories that film in a reproducible form.
The synthetic sebum consists of 17% fatty acid, 44.7% triglyceride, 25% wax monoester (jojoba oil) and 12.4% squalene. The lipid mixture takes up approximately 6% of its weight in water when equilibrated in an atmosphere saturated with water vapour, and it is stable on exposure to the atmosphere at 32 °C for at least 48 hours. BZ337 is offered as a liquid and as a semisolid (ointment-like) formulation; the liquid is supplied unless you specify otherwise, and you may order both for evaluation.
BZ337 is supplied not stabilized and preservative-free, with a 1-year shelf life unopened; a stabilized version with non-toxic preservatives against bacteria and mould is available on request. It is used to study cleansers, sebum-control and anti-acne products, the penetration of actives into the skin, and make-up wear. The general skin-surface sebum is Human Synthetic Sebum BZ328; for laundry testing see ASTM D4265-14 Artificial Sebum BZ117.
