Product Overview
Biochemazone Artificial Saliva for Biosensor Applications BZ319 is a ready-to-use, sterile synthetic saliva at pH 6.8 that closely resembles human saliva. It is used mainly by diagnostic companies for testing biosensor devices, and by biomedical, dental and pharmaceutical laboratories as a matrix for quality-control preparations. A synthetic matrix gives the same result anywhere and at any time, which pooled human saliva cannot.
BZ319 is used to develop and validate saliva-based biosensors and point-of-care devices: to prepare calibrators and controls by spiking with the analyte of interest, to test sensor response, selectivity and interference in a saliva-like matrix, and to check collection devices and sample pads. The formulations follow official test methods and published research on artificial saliva.
It is supplied not stabilized and preservative-free, with a 6-month shelf life unopened; a stabilized version is available on request and has a 1-year shelf life. The pH, the formulation, enzymes and the pack size can be customized. For lateral flow work see Simulated Saliva for Lateral Flow Assays BZ500; for drug testing see Artificial Saliva for Drug Testing BZ402; for the sweat counterpart see Artificial Sweat for Biosensor Applications BZ321.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use synthetic saliva instead of pooled human saliva?
Human saliva varies from donor to donor and from hour to hour. A synthetic matrix is the same in every bottle, so sensor results can be compared between laboratories and over time, and there is no biological hazard.
How long does the solution keep?
Unopened, the not-stabilized solution has a 6-month shelf life at 2–30 °C. A stabilized version with a 1-year shelf life is available on request.
