Biochemazone Simulated Blood Serum BZ278, also called artificial blood serum, is a sterile, ready-to-use serum simulant at pH 7.4. Serum is the clear, yellowish fluid that remains when blood has clotted – plasma without the clotting factors. BZ278 is formulated to reproduce its biochemical profile, with electrolytes, proteins, amino acids and other key components.
It gives a consistent alternative to human or animal-derived serum: the composition is the same from batch to batch, which reduces variability between experiments, and no animal has to be used as a source. BZ278 is used in cell culture, in pharmaceutical testing during drug discovery and development, and in the development and validation of diagnostic assays.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time; for cell culture, where a preservative is not wanted, order the preservative-free version or the Powder Version Kit.
