Product Overview
Biochemazone Simulated Rectal Fluid BZ651 is a release medium for suppositories, rectal gels, enemas and rectal microbicides. The rectum holds only a few millilitres of fluid with a near-neutral pH and a weak buffer, so ordinary dissolution media can give misleading release and melting results.
Two types are offered. The buffered electrolyte fluid is a low-capacity phosphate buffer with sodium and potassium chloride at a pH of about 7.4 (range 7.2–7.6). The mucin type adds porcine gastric mucin (animal-derived) to reproduce the mucus layer that affects spreading and adhesion of rectal products.
Rectal fluid composition is not standardised; check the pH, buffer and volume against your method, and we can adjust them. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
