Biochemazone Simulated Periportal Fluid BZ439, also called artificial periportal fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural periportal fluid, at pH 7.4. Periportal fluid is the fluid of the periportal region of the liver. It contains water, electrolytes, proteins and enzymes, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH of natural periportal fluid is about 7.35 to 7.45; the standard formulation is set at 7.4. Its viscosity and density are matched to the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study liver function, pathology and metabolic processes, and in tests that assess biomarkers and simulate conditions within the periportal region of the liver. It is also used to test and calibrate medical devices and diagnostic tools that interact with liver fluids, such as biosensors and imaging systems, in research on hepatic function, drug metabolism and the effects of treatments on the liver, and in training, without the need for natural periportal fluid.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains proteins and enzymes, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
