Product Overview
Biochemazone Oral Biofilm Growth Medium BZ656 is a mucin-based artificial saliva medium for growing dental plaque biofilms in the laboratory. Mucin gives the bacteria the glycoproteins they break down in the mouth, so multi-species plaque communities grow in a way that is closer to natural plaque than in standard broths.
The medium follows the general approach of published mucin-based oral biofilm media: porcine gastric mucin with peptones, yeast extract, potassium chloride, cysteine, haemin and vitamin K, at a pH of about 7.0 (range 6.8–7.2). Mucin, the peptones and haemin are animal-derived. A sucrose type is offered for cariogenic (acid-producing) biofilm models.
The medium is sterilised during manufacture; check sterility before inoculation. Published recipes vary, so check the components against your model, and we can supply your own recipe. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
