Product Overview
Biochemazone Negative Synthetic Stool Matrix BZ609 is a pathogen-free, analyte-free faecal matrix made for developing and validating stool-based diagnostic tests. Real negative stool is hard to source, varies from donor to donor and can hide low-level targets; a synthetic matrix gives the same blank every time.
The matrix contains fibre, cellulose, lipid, salts and protein in a stool-like paste with a pH of about 6.8 (range 6.5–7.5). It is formulated without the known PCR inhibitors of real stool at high levels and is tested to confirm that spiked nucleic acid can be recovered and amplified. It is free of human DNA and of the common enteric pathogens and toxins that stool tests detect.
Laboratories spike the matrix with organisms, nucleic acids or antigens to build contrived samples for limit-of-detection, inclusivity and extraction studies. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
