Product Overview
Biochemazone Avian Swab Matrix and Chicken Serum Simulant BZ711 are surrogate matrices for developing and checking molecular and antigen tests for poultry diseases such as avian influenza and Newcastle disease. They give developers a consistent background into which inactivated targets or controls can be spiked, without collecting samples from birds.
The swab matrix is a buffered saline with mucin, protein and uric acid to reflect the organic load of oropharyngeal and cloacal swabs, at a pH of about 7.2 (range 6.8–7.6). The chicken serum simulant contains electrolytes, glucose at the higher levels typical of birds, uric acid and albumin, at a pH of about 7.4 (range 7.3–7.6). Mucin is porcine and albumin is bovine; the products contain no chicken material, no immunoglobulins and no pathogens.
The simulants are not a replacement for real clinical samples in test validation. Check the requirements of the regulator or reference laboratory that will review your test. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
