Product Overview
Biochemazone Hyperosmolar Dry Eye Tear Simulant BZ653 is a series of artificial tears at raised osmolarity. Tear hyperosmolarity is a core feature of dry eye disease, and a graded series lets developers test tear-osmolarity sensors and study how eye drops and contact lenses behave in a dry-eye tear film.
Four levels are offered: 300 mOsm/L as a normal control and 320, 340 and 360 mOsm/L representing increasingly severe dry eye. Each is a tear-electrolyte solution (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride and bicarbonate) at a pH of about 7.4 (range 7.2–7.6), with the osmolarity raised mainly by sodium chloride. The measured osmolality of each batch is recorded on the certificate.
Published cut-offs for dry eye vary between studies and devices; choose levels to suit your study, and we can make any value in between. The simulant is protein-free; lysozyme, lactoferrin or mucin can be added on request. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
