Product Overview
Biochemazone Simulated Dermal Fluid BZ457, also called artificial dermal fluid, is a ready-to-use synthetic solution designed to replicate the properties of natural skin secretions, at pH 5.5. It contains water, lipids, electrolytes and proteins, which mimic the physical and chemical characteristics of the natural fluid. The pH is set at 5.5, reflecting the slightly acidic nature of healthy skin. Its viscosity and density are matched to the natural fluid, and it stays stable through the test.
Research laboratories use it to study the characteristics and behaviour of dermal fluids, including their interactions with skin tissues and barrier function, and in assays that explore dermal biomarkers. It is also used to test and calibrate medical and research devices that interact with skin fluids, such as diagnostic tools that assess skin hydration, devices that analyse skin barrier function and equipment that studies skin permeability, in research on skin physiology and dermatology, and in training in dermatology, cosmetology and skin research, without the need for actual biological samples.
It is supplied stabilized and has a 1-year shelf life unopened; a preservative-free version (6-month shelf life) and a dried Powder Version Kit are available on request. Because it contains protein, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. The formulation, minerals, organic content and pH can be customized. This simulated fluid is for scientific research and in vitro use only; it is not for clinical diagnosis or treatment. For the fluid in the dermis see Artificial Interstitial Dermal Fluid (BZ428); for the subcutaneous tissue see Simulated Subcutaneous Interstitial Fluid.
