Biochemazone Artificial Saliva with a-Amylase Added BZ400 is a ready-to-use, sterile synthetic saliva at pH 6.8 with α-amylase. α-Amylase is the main digestive enzyme of saliva: it starts the breakdown of starch in the mouth. A saliva without it cannot show how a starch-containing food, tablet or film behaves once it is chewed or wetted, and BZ400 supplies the enzyme in a matrix that closely resembles human saliva.
BZ400 is used by diagnostic companies for testing biosensor devices, and by biomedical, dental and pharmaceutical laboratories as a matrix for quality-control preparations. Typical uses are oral-phase digestion models, the breakdown of starch-based excipients, films and thickeners, food and beverage research, and sensors and assays in which salivary amylase is the analyte or an interferent.
It is supplied not stabilized and preservative-free, with a 6-month shelf life unopened; a stabilized version is available on request and has a 1-year shelf life. The pH, the enzyme level and the pack size can be customized. Because it contains an enzyme, keep it at 2–8 °C if it is to be stored for a long time. Why add α-amylase to artificial saliva?
It is the enzyme that begins starch digestion in the mouth. Tests of starch-containing foods, excipients and thickeners, and assays for salivary amylase, need it to be present.
How should BZ400 be stored?
Store it at 2–30 °C; for prolonged storage and to keep the enzyme active, 2–8 °C is best. It is shipped at room temperature. Unopened, the not-stabilized solution has a 6-month shelf life.
