Product Overview
Biochemazone Synthetic Fresh and Hydrolysed Urine BZ647 is made for research on source-separated urine: struvite precipitation, ammonia stripping, nitrification, electrochemical nutrient recovery and urine-diverting toilets. It replaces collected urine, which varies from day to day and is hard to handle in large volumes.
Two types are offered. Fresh urine contains urea, sodium, potassium, ammonium, chloride, sulfate, phosphate, citrate and creatinine, with calcium and magnesium, at a pH of about 6.0. Hydrolysed (stored) urine represents urine after the urea has been broken down in a collection tank: the nitrogen is present as ammonium and bicarbonate, the pH is about 9.0, and most of the calcium and magnesium is left out because in real stored urine they precipitate as phosphate minerals. Add a magnesium source for struvite tests.
Both types follow the general approach of published synthetic-urine recipes for nutrient-recovery work; check that the concentrations match the recipe in your study, and we can adjust them. The hydrolysed type smells of ammonia. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
