Product Overview
Biochemazone Interference Test Set BZ590 provides serum simulants spiked with the three endogenous interferents that most often disturb clinical-chemistry and immunoassay results: haemoglobin (haemolysis), bilirubin (icterus) and lipid (lipaemia). Interference testing of this kind is described in the CLSI guideline EP07 (Interference Testing in Clinical Chemistry).
Each interferent is supplied at a high stock level in the same protein-containing serum simulant, together with an unspiked blank in the set. Mixing the stock and blank in different ratios gives a dose series, so the concentration at which an assay begins to be affected can be found. Stock levels are about 10 g/L haemoglobin, 40 mg/dL (684 µmol/L) bilirubin and 20 g/L lipid emulsion; the measured values are stated on the certificate. The base is buffered to pH 7.4 (range 7.3–7.5).
The haemoglobin is of bovine origin and the lipid is a soybean-oil emulsion. Each batch is prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system.
Key Features & Benefits
✅ Three Endogenous Interferents – Haemoglobin, bilirubin and lipid
✅ Matched Blank – Same serum simulant without interferent, for dose series
✅ High Stock Levels – About 10 g/L haemoglobin, 40 mg/dL bilirubin, 20 g/L lipid
✅ Certified Values – Measured concentrations on each certificate
✅ pH 7.4 (Range 7.3–7.5) – Physiological serum pH
✅ Protein-Containing Base – Behaves like serum in immunoassays and chemistry tests
✅ Single Interferents or Sets – Buy what your study needs
✅ Made in Canada – Manufactured under ISO 9001 / GMP quality systems

Usage Areas
- IVD and immunoassay developers
- Clinical-chemistry analyser manufacturers
- Point-of-care and rapid-test companies
- Clinical laboratories verifying methods
- Universities and laboratory-medicine programmes
Typical Properties
- Appearance: Red (haemolysed), yellow-orange (icteric), milky (lipaemic), pale yellow (blank)
- pH: 7.4 (range 7.3–7.5)
- Haemolysed stock: about 10 g/L bovine haemoglobin
- Icteric stock: about 40 mg/dL (684 µmol/L) bilirubin
- Lipaemic stock: about 20 g/L soybean-oil lipid emulsion
- Base: Buffered serum simulant with albumin
- Water Grade: ISO 3696 purified water
Storage & Stability
- Storage Temperature: 2–30 °C
- Shelf Life: 1 year for unopened bottles
- Shipping: Room temperature
- Best kept at 2–8 °C for prolonged storage and stability of the protein (albumin and haemoglobin) components; storage at 2–30 °C is fine for short-term use
- Protect the icteric stock from light (bilirubin degrades in light); mix the lipaemic stock gently before use
Customization Options
- Other stock levels or ready-made dilution series
- Additional interferents (for example biotin, ascorbic acid, rheumatoid factor substitutes)
- Plasma-based or protein-free matrices
- Custom pack sizes and bulk supply
