Product Overview
Biochemazone Artificial Perspiration ISO 3160-2 – Stabilized BZ124 is a ready-to-use, sterile acidic artificial sweat at pH 4.7 for ISO 3160-2, the standard for gold alloy coverings on watch cases and accessories. It is used to determine the corrosion resistance – tarnishing, oxidation and surface penetration – of gold alloy coverings on watch cases and accessories, including bracelets permanently attached to the case.
The Stabilized version contains a preservative / stabilizer system that keeps the solution free of microbial growth through repeated opening over a long test programme. If your protocol requires solution without preservative or stabilizer, order the not-stabilized version (BZ123) or the Powder Version Kit. Prepared with ISO 3696 compliant high-purity water under Biochemazone’s ISO 9001 / GMP quality system, every batch is standardised for composition and pH. Other pH values from 2 to 9 are supplied on request at no extra cost.
BZ124 is used by watch and jewellery manufacturers, electroplaters, PVD coaters and testing laboratories to qualify gold-plated and gold-covered cases, bracelets, clasps and accessories, and more widely as an aggressive acidic sweat for the corrosion testing of decorative coatings. See also Artificial Perspiration ISO 3160-2 with Pyruvic Acid, Buffered BZ617 and Simulated Perspiration ISO 2812-1, pH 4.7 BZ408.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ISO 3160-2 test?
ISO 3160-2 covers gold alloy coverings on watch cases and accessories. The artificial sweat is used in its corrosion-resistance test, which shows whether the covering tarnishes, oxidises or is penetrated when exposed to acidic sweat.
How does BZ124 differ from BZ123?
BZ124 is stabilized: it contains a preservative / stabilizer system for repeated opening. BZ123 is the same pH 4.7 solution without preservative or stabilizer (6-month shelf life unopened).
